MBI investigating officer involved shooting after car chase through Winston and Neshoba Counties

JACKSON, Miss., – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Winston County Sheriff’s Office that occurred on January 26, 2025.

A deputy with the Winston County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver then led the deputy on a brief pursuit before coming to a stop along County Road 577 in Neshoba County. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy discharged his firearm striking the subject. The subject has been transported to a local hospital with non-lite-threatening injury. The involved deputy did not receive any serious physical injuries. A weapon was recovered from the vehicle and the incident is believed to be captured on the deputy’s body warn camera. This information is preliminary and subject to change.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
