The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin the 2024 Fourth of July Holiday Enforcement Period Thursday, July 4 at 6:00 a.m. and conclude it on Sunday, July 7 at midnight.
“As we make the plans to celebrate this Independence Day weekend, let’s also commit to making safety a top priority,” said Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) Commissioner Sean Tindell. “Thank you to all of our law enforcement and first responders for continuing to work through this long weekend to ensure everyone enjoys a fun and safe holiday.”
Troopers will be cracking down on distracted/impaired drivers and seatbelt violations.
During the Fourth of July holiday period in 2023, MHP investigated 76 crashes with 4 fatalities and made 49 DUI arrests on state and federal highway systems.
“The Independence Day holiday is a wonderful opportunity to gather with family and friends,” said Lt. Colonel James Ivory, Assistant Director of MHP. “The Mississippi Highway Patrol strives to provide vigilant and consistent protection for our state and those who travel our roadways throughout the year, especially during the busy holiday travel season. Be safe and smart as you travel during this long holiday weekend.”
