The newly renovated gym at Kosciusko High School now bears the name of one of the program’s legendary coaches.

Jerrelyn Jackson Gymnasium is the new name of the facility, first revealed at the Maroon Madness pep rally held Thursday, Dec. 5 for the unveiling of the recent renovations.

“There was no bigger supporter of the Kosciusko Whippet Basketball programs than Mrs. Jackson,” said KHS Principal Macy Wilbanks during a speech at the dedication. “Through her many years as an administrator within the Kosciusko School District, she remained a dedicated advocate for Whippet basketball programs in every way she could.”

Jackson served the Kosciusko School District for over 30 years as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, testing coordinator, and the district curriculum director.

She was an assistant girls basketball coach from 1992-1993 and head coach from 1994-1999.

Following her death in February, the Jerrelyn Jackson-Veasley Memorial Award/Scholarship was established in her honor, to be awarded each year to a female athlete at Kosciusko High School.

What an honor! JJ as I called her would be so proud. She was a phenomenal person, always concerned for the kids!
