North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery scores perfect in survey

The North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery received a perfect rating when surveyed by the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) last month.

The cemetery was inspected by the NCA as part of the Veterans Cemetery Grants Compliance Review Program.

According to the NCA team leader, Mike Patterson, the North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery is the first cemetery to receive a perfect score since 2015. Similar inspections are required for all national, state, territories, and tribal organizations.

According to the NCA, the performance of the cemetery against each of the 80 applicable measures was evaluated using a combination of documentation review, in-person interviews of cemetery staff, visual inspection, and a statistical sampling of gravesites. Based on the results of the on-site review, the cemetery earned 80 points out of a possible 80 for an overall compliance of 100%.

“It is the goal of Mississippi VA to provide superior service, care, and assistance to Mississippi’s veterans and their families.  The staff at North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery exceeded this goal and I am thankful for their service to our veterans and their families,” Stacey E. Pickering, executive director of the Mississippi Veterans Affairs said.

The cemetery was graded on standards such as grounds maintenance, headstones, markers, niche covers and equipment maintenance. North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery was opened in 2017, and is located in Kilmichael.
