The Kosciusko-Attala CTC Education Preparation (Ed Prep) I & II students have officially begun their first rotation of Field Experience, providing valuable hands-on teaching practice at five local elementary schools: Greenlee Elementary, Long Creek Elementary, Kosciusko Lower Elementary, Kosciusko Middle Elementary, and Kosciusko Upper Elementary. This collaborative effort between the Attala County School District and the Kosciusko School District aims to give aspiring educators a practical foundation in classroom management and lesson planning.
Field Experience is a key component of the Ed Prep program, designed to immerse high school students in real-world teaching environments. During the rotation, students in Ed Prep I & II will shadow and assist certified teachers, gaining insights into the day-to-day responsibilities of educators. This rotation, which is the first of three throughout the school year, will help students apply the pedagogical theories they have learned in class while contributing to the learning experience of younger students.
“Field Experience allows our students to bridge the gap between theory and practice,” said Tessa Horn, Ed Prep I & II Instructor. “It gives them a real sense of what teaching entails and prepares them for their future careers in education. We are grateful to our partner schools for providing this opportunity.”
Teachers at the participating schools are excited about the collaboration. “It’s wonderful to have Ed Prep students with us,” said Dr. Sara Williams, administrator at Kosciusko Middle Elementary. “They bring enthusiasm and fresh perspectives to the classroom, and it is a great opportunity for them to grow.”
The rotation will run for several weeks, after which the students will rotate to different classrooms and schools, ensuring a diverse field experience. As they progress, they will continue to build their teaching skills.
This partnership between the Attala County School District and the Kosciusko School District represents a significant step toward cultivating the next generation of educators. With practical experience gained in the classroom, these students are on the path to becoming future leaders in education.
