Ron Etheridge crowned 2024 Mississippi Songwriter of the Year

Ron Etheridge from Brandon, MS has been named the 2024 Mississippi Songwriter of the Year.

Etheridge was one of fifteen finalists to perform Saturday night at the historic Ellis Theater in downtown Philadelphia, where the contest was held.

Etheridge won the 2024 Songwriter of the Year Competition with the song “The Other Half.

As the 2024 Mississippi Songwriter of the Year, Etheridge will travel to Muscle Shoals for a Q&A session with various accomplished songwriters and producers, a $1,000 recording allowance for a recording session, and a two-night stay at the Marriott Shoals Hotel & Spa.

Etheridge will also have the opportunity to have a music video created for the winning song.

Muscle Shoals musician/historian and local “Shoals” icon Johnny Belew served as a judge for the contest for the seventh year in a row.

“Boswell Media’s Mississippi Songwriter of the Year competition provides a great platform for talented musicians to showcase their skills and creativity,” said Belew. “It celebrates the art of songwriting and helps to elevate the music scene in Mississippi.”

In addition to the overall winner, Joe Burgess was selected as recipient of the Woodstock Furniture People’s Choice Award.

“Mississippi is home to some of the most talented musicians and songwriters in the country,” said Boswell Media General Manager Melissa Boswell Townsend. “We are thrilled to be able to highlight that talent every year here at the Mississippi Songwriter of the Year competition.’
