The outgoing sheriff in Attala County says he expects a smooth transition as he prepares to leave office Friday. And Tim Nail says that includes the handling of the ongoing investigation into a deadly shooting at party in Ethel last week.
“The night this happened, I went ahead and notified Sheriff-Elect Curtis Pope to come out to the scene and (gave) him updates as to what we were doing. And he will have all the details to carry on this investigation,” Nail says.
He says they’ve identified a suspect in the Friday night shooting that killed Martell Jackson, 42, and left at least two others wounded. But tracking the person down has been difficult…
“We’re really hoping that some individuals that were at that party will come forward and give us some information.”
The sheriff says people from Attala, Leake and Holmes counties attended the party. He says an argument may have led to the shooting. A vehicle that may be linked to the crime is being taken to the State Crime Lab for inspection. MBI is assisting with the investigation.
