We all hope to live long and healthy lives.
But a study by Stacker.com is reporting that life expectancy in parts of this area is lower compared to most of Mississippi.
The online publisher looked at county health data and found that the average person in Attala County lives about seven tenths of a year less than the average Mississippian and that puts the county in a tie for the 39th-lowest life expectancy in the state.
In Montgomery County, it’s 2.7 years less than the state average, ranking the county 15th. Stacker says Holmes County is tied for the sixth-lowest life expectancy, 5.3 years less than the average statewide.
And it says there are only two counties in Mississippi with a lower life expectancy than Neshoba County, where, according to Stacker, the average person doesn’t live to see their 67th birthday– 5.6 years less than the state average.
The counties with a lower life expectancy than Neshoba are Coahoma and Tunica.

September 5, 2024 at 1:15 PMMississippi needs to do a better job of taking care of its residents. This has been going on for too long. It should no longer be acceptable to be “last” in everything that matters, and “first” in everything needing improvement. We can do better.

September 30, 2024 at 1:27 PMI see they took down the response of the chicken house doors being left open for extended times to “air out” after a harvest. I get a rusty red dust from the wind going through them and deposting it on other’s property. I understand that the rules say the houses should be closed and the heat turned up for a certain period of time to kill the bacteria in them.
