Teacher aide charged with sexual battery of student in Leake County

The Leake County Sheriff’s Office has charged a teacher aide with sexual battery of a vulnerable person.

Leake County Sheriff Greg Waggoner said “approximately two weeks ago Superintendent of Education Billy Mack Wilbanks received a complaint of a teacher aide possibly having an improper relationship with a 16 year old student.”

An investigation was opened by the Leake County Sheriff’s Deptartment which resulted in the arrest of Jamie Bailey Pope age 38, of Carthage.

Pope is charged with one count of sexual battery of a vulnerable person.

Pope is a teacher’s aid at Leake Central High School.

Officers believe the relationship has been ongoing since last July.
