This afternoon, two woods fires broke out in Attala County. The first, near Zama on Attala Road 5016, was likely a rekindle caused by strong winds. Attala County Fire Department and Zama Volunteers responded swiftly. The second fire occurred on Attala Road 2215 near Ethel, believed to be sparked by a fallen dead tree hitting a utility line. The Mississippi Forestry Commission assisted in containing both fires.
