A native son has become one of the most powerful leaders in state government….
“His character was molded and was formed as a child that was born and raised in Kosciusko, Mississippi.”
Rep. Hank Zuber nominated White as the first new speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives in 12 years.
After being elected by acclamation, White took the oath of office on the opening day of the 2024 legislative session,
telling his colleagues….
“My words can’t fully express how grateful and thankful I am for the trust you’re placing in me, this enormous trust.”
He said he realizes that members of the House will have different opinions…
“I look forward to finding the common ground. I intend to do all I can to keep our eyes focused on the prize of a better, brighter Mississippi.”
And White didn’t waste any time in laying out one of his top priorities…
“In the coming weeks, I will ask the House to consider legislation to reform both our funding formula and our accountability model for K-12 education.”
He said he wants to find a better way of funding the schools…
“We’re certainly spending plenty. Let’s be sure we’re spending wisely.”
Governor Reeves offered his congratulations, saying White will do “an outstanding job” as speaker.
