Kosciusko High School seniors for the Class of 2025 gathered in the rain Wednesday morning to claim their parking spots for the upcoming school year.
“Tape the parking lot,” sometimes called the “Senior Rush” or “The Running of the Students,” has become a tradition for KHS seniors.
All seniors line up on the sidewalk at 8:00 am and are given a countdown by principal Macy Wilbanks.
Once the go ahead is given, students run towards the spot they want and stake claim.
In addition to claiming a parking spot, students are allowed to decorate it. However, the spots cannot be painted, so students use colorful duct tape and chalk.
All parking places are eligible except for those marked off for teachers and the section of the parking lot that serves as the practice field for the Big Red Band.
The Kosciusko School District will begin its 2024-2025 school year Friday, Aug. 2.
