The Kosciusko Whippets are back on Whippet Field tonight hosting the Caledonia Confederates in the series deciding second round of the MHSAA 4A Baseball Tournament. The Whippets enter tonight’s game 15-13 overall this season while the Confederates of Caledonia enter with a 16-12 overall record. The 1st inning and a half was scoreless for the two teams but the Whippets put the first run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 2nd inning on a bases loaded hit batter giving the Whippets an early one run lead. The Whippets lit up the scoreboard with four additional runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning after a lead off triple by Clark Dean, taking a five run lead in the game, 5-0. The Confederates put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the 5th inning to cut the Whippets lead to four runs, however the Whippets added three runs in the bottom of the inning giving the Whippets a 8-1 lead. The Confederates picked up another run in the top of the 6th inning and the Whippets responded with a run in the bottom of the inning giving a seven run lead to the Whippets going into the top of the 7th inning. The Confederates had their best at bat in the top of the 7th, scoring three runs but it was not enough to catch the Whippets. The final score of the game Whippets winning by four runs, 9-5. With tonight’s win the Whippets advance to the next round of the 4A playoffs. The Whippets will play the Amory Panthers in the next series beginning Thursday night.
