The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is continuing work on two projects in Attala County.
One project underway is the replacement of a bridge on Hwy 35 just north of Kosciusko. The contractor has nearly completed constructing both detour bridges and is in the process of paving the detour road.
The $6.5 million contract was awarded to Joe McGee Construction Company, Inc. of Lake and is expected to be completed in summer 2024.
“As we continue to chip away at our list, our list continues to grow,” said Commissioner John Caldwell, Northern Transportation District. “The cycle of maintenance on our roads and bridges requires constant attention and lots of money. I am very grateful for all of the legislative efforts that have helped us thus far. It makes a difference.”
The second project is a mill and overlay of Hwy 14 from Hwy 35 to Hwy 19. All items have been completed except for final striping.
The $2.5 million contract was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen, Inc. of Brookhaven. Work is expected to be completed in winter 2024.
“These projects are vital to our communities in northwest Mississippi, and they wouldn’t be possible without the tremendous level of support we receive from our state legislature and executive branch,” said Mitch Turner, District 2 Engineer.
