Guilty Pleas in 2023 Choctaw Reservation Murder

PEARL RIVER, Miss.–Three people charged in a 2023 killing in the Pearl River community on the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Reservation, pleaded guilty Friday in federal court.

Michael Shaffer, Sr., 48, and Montero Willis, 22, admitted to shooting and killing a person on the reservation. The incident happened in September 2023.

A third person, Deyonkia Willis, 30, was an accessory after the fact.

Shaffer and Montero Willis now face life in prison as a possible sentence for second degree murder, while Deyonkia Willis could get up to 15 years.

Sentencing will be at a later date.

    Wished This Never Happened To A Struggling Young Lady Deyonkia. I’ve Gotten To Have Known Her Thru My Daughter. I Was Ok With Their Friendship. She Was Shy But Loved By Me. Wrong Place At The Wrong Time. Wishing Her The Best 💕🙏
