Passed Out Near Dumpster; Arrested for Possession

A man passed out by a dumpster in Sallis was arrested for possession of controlled substance on Friday, May 23.

Attala County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Blake Burns noticed the vehicle parked near a dumpster on Highway 431 in Sallis at around 5:20 that afternoon. Upon investigation, Sgt. Burns found the driver slumped over in the driver’s seat.

ACSO reports that 1.7 grams of heroin was discovered inside the vehicle. Deputies Cobi Edwards and Daniel Tolleson arrived on scene to assist with the investigation and arrest.

The driver was identified as 57-year-old Thomas Levi Howell of Attala County. He was arrested and charged with felony possession of controlled substance. Howell was booked into the Leake County Correctional Facility and his bail was set at $10,000.

    To the Author of this piece, Dollar General faces Hwy 12 and is not “in Sallis”. At best, you should have said, “in the Sallis area” That would make your statement true. As written, it is false.
