The mayor leaves out that the TREE program (TREES MS) grant money is earmarked for the improvement of disadvantaged neighborhoods in the City. What it is targeted at is creating equitable access, without an economic burden, to persons or neighborhoods who cannot readily afford trees for landscaping purposes. The cost to plant even a small sapling can run $10-40 just for the tree. As the mayor of Natchez said after receiving one of these grants, “This [grant is] particularly for those neighborhoods where our program will have the greatest impact – those areas where we have lack of shade and where storms, drought and disease have taken their toll on our trees.” It would have been useful if the mayor would have expressed similar sentiments–that the grant is firstly for disadvantaged neighborhoods.

This actually was a good reflection yet he has a couple of facts wrong regarding warming center. The first day (2)persons stayed in warming center small side yet wed-Sunday 7-10 persons registered for overnight stays and were accommodated in all sides where temps were 75 degrees and Higher in SLEEPING areas. It was a excellent Community collaboration of success of a “Well Care” with Mr Danny Townsend n both police departments overseeing details to maximize all involved efforts especially the Volunteers and SAFETY protocols.
