Photo gallery: Whippets split playoff soccer matches in busy weekend of sports action

It was a busy and exciting sports weekend for Kosciusko High School, highlighted by playoff soccer matches and preseason action for both baseball and softball.

The Lady Whippet soccer team delivered a dominant performance in the opening match of the day, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Senatobia in the first round of the playoffs at Whippet Stadium. The shutout win sends Kosciusko’s girls into the next round as they continue their postseason run.

In the 2nd game of the day, the Whippet boys soccer team battled South Pontotoc in a thrilling and hard-fought playoff matchup that went deep into extra time.

After regulation ended tied 1-1, the teams played two 10-minute extra periods, with neither side able to break the deadlock. The match then moved into a five-minute sudden death period, where South Pontotoc finally found the net at the 1:47 mark, handing Kosciusko a heartbreaking 2-1 loss and ending the Whippets’ playoff run.

Addtionally, the Whippet baseball team hosted a preseason jamboree, welcoming Neshoba Central and Pearl for a full slate of preseason action.

The Lady Whippet softball team also took part in a preseason jamboree at Pisgah High School alongside Pisgah and Choctaw Central, using the opportunity to fine-tune before opening regular season play.
