Fatal Crash Reported in Sallis Friday Afternoon

A one-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Sallis woman Friday afternoon.

Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 3:09 p.m. to the intersection of Hwy 14 and Attala Rd. 4167 for reports of a crash with possible entrapment. Units from the Attala County Fire Department, Attala County EMS, Attala County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

Firefighters arrived on scene and reported one patient unresponsive. CPR was immediately initiated, but despite lifesaving efforts, the individual could not be revived.

Attala County Coroner Sam Bell pronounced the victim, identified as Lue Bertha Simmons, 88, of Sallis, deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

MS Hwy Patrol is in charge of investigating the cause of the crash.
