New historical markers featuring QR codes will soon be installed throughout Kosciusko as part of the America 250 initiative.
Mayor Tim Kyle announced the project during Tuesday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting, explaining that the city received funding through the Mississippi Humanities Council with support from the State of Mississippi.
The new markers will be placed at several historic locations across the city. Each marker will include a QR code that visitors can scan to access audio and video presentations about the site’s history.
The project builds on a previously completed audio and video tour developed in partnership with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and the National Park Service.
Mayor Kyle said the markers will allow both residents and visitors to experience Kosciusko’s history in a more interactive way.
City leaders believe the project will increase awareness of local history while also supporting tourism and educational opportunities.
Installation timelines for the markers are expected to be announced at a later date.
