The Attala Historical Society officially launched its “Echoes of History: America 250 Lecture Series” Tuesday evening at the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center in Kosciusko.
The opening program featured William “Brother” Rogers, former director of the Programs and Communication Division of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, who presented “Learning Mississippi History Through Historical Markers.”
During his presentation, Rogers shared stories from across the state while highlighting the role historical markers play in preserving Mississippi’s past.
He also discussed his personal project of traveling to all 82 Mississippi counties to photograph the state’s approximately 1,500 historical markers, creating an online resource that allows visitors to explore local history through the markers.
The lecture series continues each Tuesday in June at 6 p.m. at the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
