Work Beginning to Complete Broadband Rollout Across MS

High-speed internet service is still out of reach for many Mississippians.  But a multi-million dollar effort is kicking off to provide broadband access to about 93,000 unserved locations across the state…

“We are signing those grant agreements this summer and all of those projects will start,” says Kosciusko native Sally Doty, who heads the Office of Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi (BEAM).  “I think we have a project in just about every county except one or two up in extreme northeast Mississippi.”

She says internet service providers will be paid $508 million to fill the gaps in Mississippi’s broadband network.  And you can see a map of the buildout by going to BEAM.ms.gov.

“If you don’t have service right now, it will tell you who has the obligation, who has the funding, to provide you service.”

But those companies will have four years to finish the job.

Doty says, “I wish I could snap my fingers and everybody could be served.  But that is not the way this works.”

I was waiting for fiber Internet but nothing yet, all around us here with constant drops of WiFi and internet. Interested to see if our area is open for this. Thanks
