We told you last week about the town hall meeting that’s planned later this month to address frequent power outages in northern Attala County. Public Service Commissioner Chris Brown will be among the state leaders who’ll be attending the September 21st meeting.
“We are working to try to, number one, discern exactly what’s causing the outages. So, we are leaning on Entergy to try to correct those problems.”
Brown says the company has already been trimming trees around power lines which could help prevent outages during high winds. But he says that’s obviously not the only thing that’s going on here.
“Storm-related (outages), we can kind of understand that. But if you’re having fair weather outages, then there’s more operational problems we need to possibly take a look at.”
The commissioner says Entergy has told him that northern Attala doesn’t enjoy the same kind of power line redundancy that many other parts of the state have.
“So, if you have a tree limb fall on one line, it knocks the whole system out. The modern grid system, if you have redundancies, then one transformer goes out, there’s a switch and it can actually come around the back side and supply power.”
Entergy CEO Haley Fisackerly will also be at the town hall at the Carmack Community Center along with House Speaker Jason White.
