The western part of the local area has gotten the worst of the heat stress in recent weeks. But the shoe’s on the other foot on Saturday. A heat advisory has been issued for eastern counties including Leake, Neshoba, Winston and Choctaw along with north Mississippi.
Locally, afternoon highs in the upper 90s are expected through Sunday with Durant possibly reaching triple digits Saturday and Sunday. The heat stress will be easing by the middle of next week, when highs drop into lower 90s.
