The Kosciusko Board of Aldermen is reviewing a proposed policy to regulate access to the police department’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system.
Mayor Tim Kyle emphasized that the cameras serve as a vital investigative tool, aiding in hit-and-run investigations, local thefts, and regional Amber Alerts. Under current police procedures, system access is strictly restricted to the police chief and two investigators, with all searches requiring an assigned case number.
To address national privacy concerns and ensure transparency, the board introduced the formal handbook policy and tabled the vote until the next meeting to give residents time to review the proposal.
