Mayor Kyle: Grant for Sewers Approved, HOME Grant Delayed

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–While one grant that would help the City of Kosciusko find leaks within the city sewer system, has been approved, another that would help pay for the repair and rebuilding of some houses, has been delayed, said Mayor Tim Kyle.

The Community Development Block Grant that will put about a half million dollars into the dignosis and repair of sewer lines, which will be matched by the city, was recently approved by the Dept. of Environmental Quality, said Kyle.

“That grant will be used on rehabbing some of our sewer lines,” he explained, saying that water leaks in when it rains and the money would be to help find the breaks and repair them.

Meanwhile, the HOME grant seems to be on back order.

“We started the HOME grant probably a year and a half ago,” he said. “Those programs go through HUD and then the HOME Corp. out of Jackson and they have been on hold for some reason.

“We have six houses in our community, four of those that were going to be refurbished and two that were going to be rebuilds.”

Kyle did not have a timeline on when that money might be freed up.
