Baptist Attala Earns National Gold Recognition for Stroke Care

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Attala has been recognized nationally for its commitment to providing high-quality stroke care, earning the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Rural Recognition Gold Award for 2026.

The award recognizes hospitals that demonstrate excellence in acute stroke care by consistently meeting evidence-based treatment guidelines and quality measures designed to improve patient outcomes.

According to the American Heart Association, hospitals receiving the Gold award have shown strong performance in areas including intravenous thrombolytic therapy, timely transfers between hospitals when specialized care is needed, dysphagia screening, documentation of stroke symptoms and timelines, emergency medical services communication, brain imaging, and access to stroke expert consultation.

Hospital officials said the recognition highlights the challenges and importance of delivering advanced stroke care in a rural community.

“In rural areas like ours, patients face unique needs and social risk factors,” the hospital said in a social media post. “We’re proud to receive the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Rural Recognition Gold award for our efforts to give stroke patients in Attala County the best possible chance of recovery and survival.”

The American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines program helps hospitals nationwide improve patient care by promoting adherence to the latest research-based treatment recommendations. The Stroke Rural Recognition program specifically honors hospitals serving rural communities that achieve high standards in stroke treatment and patient care.

Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in the United States. Health experts emphasize that rapid diagnosis and treatment are critical to improving recovery and reducing the risk of permanent disability.

The recognition places Baptist Memorial Hospital-Attala among a select group of rural hospitals nationwide recognized for excellence in stroke care and patient outcomes.
