Kosciusko-Attala CTC Ed Prep and Health Science students teamed up to teach the Mississippi Handwashing Program to kindergarten students at Kosciusko Lower Elementary.
Throughout the lesson, CTC students demonstrated each step of correct handwashing (wetting hands, applying soap, scrubbing for 20 seconds, rinsing thoroughly, and drying with a clean towel) and singing “Top and Bottom.”
To make the lesson engaging and memorable, the Ed Prep and Health Science students incorporated a book, visuals, and activities.
The experience was mutually beneficial: kindergarten students gained essential health skills, while Ed Prep and Health Science students strengthened their communication, leadership, and instructional abilities.
“Programs like this help our students connect classroom learning with real-world application,” Ed Prep Instructor Tessa Horn noted. Health Science Instructor Amy Price said, “At the same time, we are helping young children build healthy habits that keep them healthy throughout the school year.”
The partnership between Kosciusko-Attala CTC and Kosciusko Lower Elementary continues to provide meaningful opportunities for community engagement, career exploration, and student leadership development.
