A former industrial building in Kosciusko could soon be transformed into a large childcare center.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Kosciusko Board of Aldermen approved a zoning variance request for the former Bluff Springs Paper building on Pilsudski Street.
Mayor Tim Kyle said the prospective owner plans to convert the facility into a daycare capable of serving more than 100 children while employing between 10 and 15 people.
The property is currently zoned Light Industrial. Rather than permanently changing the zoning classification, the Board approved a variance allowing the building to operate as a commercial daycare.
Kyle explained that if the daycare ever closes, the property will automatically revert to its original Light Industrial zoning designation.
The owner plans to begin by using the building’s office space before expanding operations into additional portions of the facility as enrollment grows.
If completed, the project would bring a significant childcare facility and new jobs to Kosciusko.
