Town officials in Ethel are advising residents to take precautions after a natural gas crew damaged a key utility line on Tuesday.
Utility workers accidentally drilled through a main water line during ongoing work, causing temporary discoloration in the town’s water supply. Local crews immediately responded to the scene and began flushing the municipal lines to clear the system.
Town officials advise residents who experience brown water to run their cold water taps for a short period. Doing so will help flush out any remaining sediment or discolored water resting in the service lines between the street and individual home plumbing.
Normal water clarity is expected to return shortly as flushing efforts wrap up.
