The entire local area– and much of Mississippi– will be under a heat advisory today as temperatures climb into the upper 90s this afternoon with a heat index around 105. The National Weather Service says, even though September is here, it’ll feel like July or August in Mississippi for at least the next couple of weeks. Fall begins Sept. 22 and typically, the first significant cold front of the season arrives toward the end of the month or in early October.
As far as any immediate heat relief, that would have to come from rain. And there’s a better chance of that on Friday, ranging from 40 per cent in Durant to 50 per cent in Kosciusko and 60 per cent in Carthage and Philadelphia.
