The worst of the heat stress in Mississippi is shifting to the south today. Parts of the Delta, which have been hit hard this week, will see things easing up a little while it’ll get hotter across some areas in south Mississippi. In this area, afternoon temperatures will still climb into the mid 90s with heat indices ranging from 106 in Kosciusko to 107 in Carthage and Philadelphia and 108 in Durant. A heat advisory will be in effect through this evening. Starting tomorrow, highs will be in the lower 90s.
The extreme heat warning which had included Holmes and Carroll counties on Tuesday will now extend from the Indianola and Greenwood areas to the south.
Tropical Storm Bertha has made landfall in southeastern Louisiana after passing south of the Mississippi coast earlier today.
