Drivers on the Natchez Trace Parkway are being urged to watch their speed as federal officials launch a new traffic safety campaign focused on aggressive driving and speeding.
The National Park Service and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are promoting the “Speeding Catches Up With You” campaign, which runs through the end of July.
During that time, drivers can expect an increased law enforcement presence along the Parkway, including Natchez Trace Parkway Rangers and Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers focused on speed enforcement and traffic safety.
“Speeding is aggressive driving that endangers everyone on the road,” officials said. “Following posted speed limits is not just the law — it’s a shared responsibility to protect all lives on the road.”
The campaign is aimed at reducing speeding-related crashes and educating drivers on the dangers of driving above posted limits. According to NHTSA, more than 11,000 traffic deaths in 2024 were speed-related, accounting for nearly 30% of all fatalities nationwide.
Officials say speeding reduces a driver’s ability to react to hazards, increases stopping distance, and raises the risk of losing control of a vehicle.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, stay alert, and follow posted speed limits throughout the Parkway.
And drivers in the central Mississippi, be reminded that the Parkway is currently closed between Kosciusko and French Camp due to ongoing construction.

There was a storm a week or two ago my family and I headed to Ko and there were 8 trees down! When you call law enforcement you get “Thats not my County” when it is in fact right at the Attala Co line.
