Newman Captures 300M Hurdles State Title; Ethel Girls Finish Sixth at State

The Ethel High School girls track and field team turned in an impressive performance at the MHSAA Class 1A State Track and Field Championships, finishing sixth overall out of 33 schools despite competing with just five athletes.

Leading the way was Addy Newman, who captured the state championship in the 300-meter hurdles, earning Ethel’s top individual honor of the meet with a standout performance.

In the field events, Alyn Bishop delivered a strong showing, placing third in the shot put and adding a fifth-place finish in the discus, contributing valuable points to the team total.

Claire Tate also scored for Ethel with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, while Amariuna Merritt added points in two sprint events, finishing fifth in the 100-meter dash and sixth in the 200-meter dash.

Distance runner Jasmine Williamson rounded out the scoring with a seventh-place finish in the 1600-meter run.

With contributions across multiple events, the Lady Tigers made the most of a small roster to secure a top-10 team finish.
