As you may have heard, Breezy 101.1 is moving to Breezy 103.7.
And while some engineering work has already been completed inside the radio building, the tower work started Monday, July 7.
A tower crew is on site to begin the process of installing the new antenna and additional equipment to begin the transition over to the new frequency.
While the antenna is being assembled on the ground, one member of the crew climbs to the very top of the tower. He then sends down a cable, which the grounds crew attach to the antenna. An automated pulley system is then used to send the antenna to the top of the tower to be set in place.
This process is done twice due to the new antenna being assembled in two separate pieces.
Once the antenna is in place, the crew will make the final connections and hook ups on the tower.
After the tower work is completed, engineers will begin work in the transmitter room (located inside the building, adjacent to the Breezy 101 studio) to finalize the programming for the frequency change to take place.
As of this report, it’s still too early in the process to have a definitive date of when the change to Breezy 103.7 will happen, but that date should be clearer by the end of the week.
For reference, here’s a brief timeline of what has to happen when a radio station chooses to change frequencies:
- Secure FCC approval after interference studies.
- Make updates to transmitter and/or antenna system.
- Update the STL (Studio-to-Transmitter Link) and RDS (Radio Data System) data.
- Test the new frequency and notify listeners.
- Switch over.
