A company that processes chicken into breasts and tenders will hire 450 more people, expanding production in central Mississippi.

Pearl River Foods opened in 2017 in Carthage with 150 workers. The company said Thursday that about 100 new jobs are already filled.

Mississippi Development Authority spokesman Jeff Rent says the state is providing $500,000 to train workers.

The company invested $2 million when it leased a government-owned building in 2017, aided by $1.67 million in federal and local grants. Pearl River Foods later constructed a neighboring building.

Pearl River Foods partner Phillip Jones says the company plans additional growth.

The company was founded by four owners of Victory Foods of Gainesville, Georgia, and two new partners, but isn’t a sister company.
