The Mississippi Department of Public Safety will permanently close the Walnut Grove Driver Services Bureau at the end of the year, with the final day of operation set for December 31. No appointments will be taken after that date.
Town officials were notified late last month that DPS plans to transfer staff and equipment to a new facility in Canton.
According to the Town of Walnut Grove, the location has operated since 2006 in a downtown building provided by the town at no cost, including renovations and utilities.
Town leaders said they would have welcomed the opportunity to continue hosting the bureau, noting the closure decision was made by the state and not by the town.
