The Ethel Tigers exploded for 32 second-quarter points and never looked back Friday night, overpowering General Christian School 46-0 in a dominant home victory.
After a scoreless opening frame, Ethel’s ground attack caught fire in the second quarter. Caden Merritt kicked off the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run, followed quickly by an 11-yard scoring rush from D’ante Bailey and a 52-yard touchdown breakaway by Zantavious Clark. Bailey added his second touchdown of the quarter on a 13-yard run to push the halftime lead to 32-0.
The Tigers kept the pressure on in the second half as Curt Erving broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Rhett Moudy capped the night with a 9-yard touchdown rush in the fourth, with Maddox Renfrow adding both second-half extra points.
“Started slow,” said Ethel head coach Junior Graham. “I thought we controlled both lines of scrimmage. Making explosive plays on offense and negative plays on defense is a pretty good recipe.”
Ethel put up 305 total yards on the night, all rushing yards, across just 25 carries. Clark led the backfield with 161 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. On defense, Jayden Ferguson led the Tigers with 6.5 tackles, while Erving recorded 6 tackles and recovered a fumble to help secure the shutout.
The Tigers are now 2-2 on the season and will face off against rival French Camp this Friday.
