The Attala Historical Society will usher in the holiday season with a new community event this year: Trees of Christmas, to be held Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6, at the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center, a landmark proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Admission is free, and the public is warmly invited to attend.
Designed as a festive showcase of community spirit, the event features themed Christmas trees decorated by local organizations, businesses, churches, and civic groups. Each display highlights the participating group’s unique mission and personality, transforming the Cultural Center into a sparkling gallery of holiday creativity.
Visitors can enjoy a cheerful walk-through experience featuring a wide variety of imaginative themes, from Flamingo All the Way and Cups of Christmas Cheer to Portraits of Christmas Past and Elves Gone Wild. The Cultural Center is handicap accessible, making the event enjoyable and easy to navigate for all guests.
Area schools are encouraged to bring classes for daytime visits, offering students a fun, educational, and festive holiday outing. Doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
“Trees of Christmas brings neighbors together in a joyful setting while shining a spotlight on one of our community’s most storied buildings,” said Audra Love Dean, Attala Historical Society board member and event coordinator. “It’s a chance to celebrate tradition, creativity, and the warm, welcoming spirit that defines our community.”
Join the Attala Historical Society in making this two-day celebration a memorable new holiday tradition—and kick off the season amid twinkling lights, hometown pride, and the historic charm of the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center.
