Midnight Shooting Sends One to Hospital; Two Teens Arrested

A shooting just after midnight on Sunday, Feb. 15, sent one person to the hospital in Kosciusko.

Attala County Communications began receiving multiple calls reporting gunshots in the area of North Natchez Apartments. Kosciusko Police Department responded and began patrolling the area for any signs of a disturbance.

While officers were canvassing the area, communications received a call from the Baptist Emergency Department reporting that a gunshot victim had arrived seeking treatment. The victim was later released from the hospital and did not sustain major injuries.

It was determined that two people inside a vehicle had been shot at by two individuals in another vehicle. With the help of surveillance systems, officers were able to identify the vehicle and individuals involved.

Kosciusko Police later arrested 18-year-old Richard Vashon Kern and 19-year-old Amareon Dupri Stewart.

Kern

Kern was charged with two counts of aggravated assault – use of a deadly weapon and shooting into a motor vehicle.

Stewart

Stewart was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
