State Senator Bradford Blackmon (D-District 21) announced that during the 2026 Mississippi Legislative Session $19,365,000 in state appropriations was secured for 24 critical projects across Senate District 21, which includes portions of Holmes, Leake, Attala, and Madison counties.
Blackmon, an attorney who has represented the district since January 2024, highlighted the funding’s focus on infrastructure, public safety, and community development.
“These funds will make a real difference for the communities I am blessed to serve,” he stated in a social media post accompanying a detailed appropriations breakdown.
Several funded initiatives directly benefit Attala County communities, including the city of Kosciusko, the town of Ethel, and the McAdams area. These projects emphasize public safety, community facilities, and essential water infrastructure improvements.
- Kosciusko Separate School District – Attala County Coliseum: $750,000
- City of Kosciusko – Police Vehicles & Equipment: $325,000
- Ethel Rural Water Association – Water Line to Airport: $130,000
- McAdams Water Association – Water System Upgrades: $250,000
Additionally, Holmes County projects in the town of Lexington, Pickens, and West will also receive funding.
- Holmes County — Courthouse Renovation: $150,000
- Lexington — Street Repairs: $500,000
- Town of Pickens — Library Renovation: $200,000
- Town of Pickens — Old City Hall, Yazoo Street: $60,000
- Holmes County Industrial Park (SB 2468): $250,000
- Holmes County Industrial Park (SB 2189): $1,000,000
- Holmes County — District 2 Roads & Bridges: $500,000
- Town of West — Infrastructure Improvements: $500,000
- Holmes County State Park — Repairs & Improvements: $4,000,000
