America 250 Lecture Series “Echoes of History”continues with June 9 presentation at Cultural Center

The “Echoes of History: America 250 Lecture Series” continues this month in Kosciusko, with the next presentation scheduled for Monday, June 9.

Presented by the Attala Historical Society in celebration of America 250, the series is being held each Tuesday in June at 6 p.m. at the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center.

The program brings together local historians and guest speakers to explore key moments, places, and people that helped shape the history of Attala County and Mississippi.

The upcoming June 9 lecture is titled “Marked on America’s Map: 20 Places That Define Attala County.” The presentation will highlight 20 historic sites in Attala County listed on the National Register of Historic Places, offering insight into the stories and significance behind each location.

Organizers say the series is designed to connect local history with the broader story of the nation as part of the America 250 celebration, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

  • June 9 — “Marked on America’s Map: 20 Places That Define Attala County”
    • Discover the 20 historic sites in Attala County marked on the National Register of Historic Places. Learn about the rich and sometimes surprising history that shaped our nation.
  • June 16 — “The Natchez Trace”
    • Examine the role the Natchez Trace had in the development of the United States. From travel to trade, learn about the impact this roadway had on our country.
  • June 23 — “From Trace to Trade: The Economic Story of Kosciusko & Attala County”
    • Explore the economic history of Kosciusko and Attala County, from the earliest days along the Trace, to the growth of commerce, agriculture, and industry that shaped our community.

The lecture series is part of the nationwide America 250 celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
