KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–Two fires got out of hand Saturday afternoon in Attala County in separate instances, in different parts of the county, but close to the same time.
The first was just after 1 p.m. on Attala Rd. 2127 near McCool. That fire was contained within a few minutes.
A second fire call came in about 1:20 p.m., with the fire in the woods on Hwy. 43 north, near the intersection with Attala Rd. 3122.
That was reported as a burn that got out of control.
The person who called it in told dispatchers that the fire was well into the woods and that the firefighters might have a stough time getting eqipment to where it was. Assistance was requested from the Miss. Forestry Commission.
The fire proved to be a difficult one to fight, with extra firefighters and trucks called in two hours after the fire was dispatched.
More fires
Meanwhile, another fire was reported about 1:30 p.m., on Attala Rd. 1008 in the Williamsville area near a shop in the Southpoint subdivision. That fire was contained within a few minutes.
Central and Sallis volunteers were called out to a fire on Attala Rd. 4116 at 2:48 p.m. It was called in as a burn that was out of control, with no structures in danger.
