As heat stress increases across Mississippi this week, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory which includes Holmes County for today. It’ll be in effect from 11 am until 8 pm. In Durant, the heat index this afternoon is forecast to reach 106 degrees and could be even higher across western Mississippi. NWS says the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will only get worse this week and by Wednesday, heat indices are expected to climb to 107 in Durant, 106 in Carthage and 105 in Kosciusko and Philadelphia.
