Residents in Attala and Holmes Counties who suffered damage during January’s winter ice storm now have new opportunities to receive recovery assistance.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), in coordination with federal and local partners, opened several Disaster Recovery Centers and Disaster Survivor Assistance sites across the state beginning Monday, April 27, to help residents affected by the January 23–27 winter storm.
For residents in Holmes County, a Disaster Survivor Assistance site is now open at the EDA Building, located at 303 Yazoo Street in Lexington. Officials say these sites are expected to operate for approximately one week in each location.
Although there is not a physical site located directly in Attala County, residents there are eligible for federal disaster assistance and may visit nearby Disaster Recovery Centers in surrounding counties.
At both Disaster Recovery Centers and Disaster Survivor Assistance sites, residents can receive in-person FEMA registration, assistance information, and referrals to recovery resources.
Disaster Survivor Assistance sites are designed to operate temporarily, while Disaster Recovery Centers are expected to remain open longer depending on the level of need.

Officials emphasize that residents do not have to visit a physical location to apply for assistance. Individuals can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-3362, or by using the FEMA mobile app.
Residents who experienced damage during the January storm are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to begin the recovery process.
