Students from the Kosciusko-Attala Career Tech Center recently took part in a statewide volunteer effort, assisting with the annual Horses for Handicapped event at the Rankin County Multipurpose Center.

Students in the Career Exploration, Ed Prep, and Health Science programs volunteered at the long-running, all-volunteer event, which serves children and adults with disabilities from across Mississippi.

Horses for Handicapped is designed to provide participants with an inclusive, enjoyable day featuring a variety of activities and hands-on experiences. KACTC students helped support several stations throughout the event, including interactive games, bounce houses, wagon rides, a petting zoo, and horseback rides.

Organizers say the event not only offers meaningful experiences for individuals with disabilities, but also brings together volunteers and communities from across the state in a shared effort of service and inclusion.

For the students, participation provided more than just volunteer hours. School officials say the experience helped students build skills in compassion, leadership, and service while gaining real-world exposure to working with diverse groups of people.

KACTC leaders continue to emphasize community involvement as an important part of their programs, giving students opportunities to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-life settings.
