Shots Fired Call Leads to Arrest in Kosciusko Tuesday Evening

Kosciusko police arrested a man Tuesday evening following a shots fired call, vehicle pursuit, a brief standoff near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Brooks Street.

At approximately 7:06 p.m. on May 19, officers with the Kosciusko Police Department responded to a report of shots fired near Kim’s Quick Stop. Police located and initiated a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle before it fled, traveling toward Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Attala County Sheriff’s Office was called in to assist. Authorities stopped the vehicle near the intersection Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Brooks Street, where officers reportedly encountered an armed suspect refusing commands while brandishing a weapon. Officers were able to talk the suspect into surrendering, and he was taken into custody.

Police arrested Deandre Martez Wise and charged him with discharging a weapon within city limits, fleeing law enforcement, carrying a concealed weapon, and three counts of disobeying a traffic control device. Mr. Wise is currently being held at the Leake County Correctional Facility.
