The Mississippi coast could be placed under a hurricane watch later today. Tropical Storm Isaias (pronounced EESS-ah-EE-sus) formed in the Gulf this morning and is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane by tomorrow and to reach Category-2 strength by Friday as it heads toward landfall along the northern Gulf coast Friday night. The latest update from the National Hurricane Center shifts the storm track to the east indicating that it may move inland near the Alabama-Florida line but the Hurricane Center cautions that there’s still plenty of uncertainty about where it’s going. The storm is forecast to weaken some from its peak intensity before making landfall but is still expected to be a dangerous hurricane as it comes ashore.
The storm could produce two to four inches of rain, maybe more, across eastern Mississippi, including much of this area.
